The West Berkshire Breast Screening Programme is raising £130,000 for a new piece of mammography equipment for its mobile screening unit. The new equipment will make a real difference to the people it serves in local communities by making the service more accessible, reducing the amount of time it takes to complete a mammogram, and improving patient outcomes from surgical interventions.

Every donation, no matter how small, will help ensure that every person in the community has access to the best possible breast cancer screening. In the time it has taken to read this letter, another person has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Together, we can make a difference.

How the new equipment will make a difference:

  • Make the service more accessible by providing screening closer to home, reducing the need for travel and time away from work or other commitments.
  • Reduce the amount of time it takes to complete a mammogram, making the experience more comfortable and convenient for patients.
  • Improve patient outcomes from surgical interventions by reducing the number of appointments that need to be rescheduled and the need for unnecessary biopsies.

Why is early detection of breast cancer so important?

Early detection of breast cancer is crucial because it leads to better treatment outcomes and survival rates. When breast cancer is detected early, it is often smaller and more localised, making it easier to treat.
