Golf Day

Sonning Golf Club

In partnership with Jacobs Jewellers Reading, the Royal Berks Charity hosted their eighth and most successful annual golf day to date at Sonning Golf Club, where 24 teams enjoyed competing against each other and raised £16,000 towards the purchase of a Surface Guided Radiotherapy (SGRT) machine for the Berkshire Cancer Centre. The SGRT will help improve the way patients receive radiotherapy and will be a huge benefit and the Royal Berkshire Hospital will be one of only two NHS Hospitals in England to offer this treatment to patients. The Royal Berks Charity is very grateful to Jacobs, who in their 70th year of trading, have pledged to raise £70,000 towards the SGRT.

The annual golf day was the inspiration of the late Chris Harrison, who had been a huge and loyal supporter of the Royal Berks Charity and helped in the past to raise over £250k for the Royal Berkshire Hospital’s ‘Robbie’ the robot for the urology department. In memory of Chris, the Royal Berks Charity commissioned a memorial trophy in his name and awarded it to the golfer who scores the highest points. This year the trophy was won by Roy Logan.

Ian Thomson, Director of Royal Berks Charity said: “It was fantastic day and great to welcome many old familiar faces and teams and several new ones. The money raised will hugely benefit our patients and I would like to thank everyone and our sponsors for their incredible generosity.”
