A Royal Berks Charity appeal has launched to assist the Lion and Dolphin Wards at the Royal Berkshire Hospital who need £44,000 to provide recliners for parents of their patients, and support planned refurbishment works to their play room.
Dolphin and Lion is a busy 44 bedded paediatric ward patients caring for patients who range in ages from newborn to 16 years old. Currently the parent or carer staying with their child has a worn out and uncomfortable camp bed to sleep on. We are looking raise £44,000 to purchase 44 recliner chairs that parents and carers can utilise at night time to keep them more comfortable and near to their children. Along with the recliners, there are planned refurbishment works to the play room on the ward, to enhance children’s experience during their stay in hospital.
Claire Lord, Matron of Paediatrics, says; “The reclining chairs would be amazing as we could use them in all areas of the ward including the High Dependency Unit where we care for our sickest children. Being able to provide a chair that reclines in this environment would provide these families with somewhere close to their child where they can rest. The chairs that we would like to purchase are colourful which would keep the ward bright and welcoming as well as being easy to clean.. We believe that the purchase of these reclining chairs will ensure the parents and carers are as comfortable as possible during a difficult time.”
