Cookies are small files stored on your computer, phone or tablet when you visit a website. They can help a website work, remember a choice or collect information about how it is used.
Similar technologies include browser storage and tracking pixels. Where these store or access information on your device, the same privacy rules can apply. In this policy, “cookies” includes these technologies where relevant.
Your choices
We use essential cookies where they are necessary to provide a service you request or to transmit information. We ask for your consent before using optional cookies, including optional analytics, preference and marketing cookies.
When you first visit, our cookie banner lets you accept all optional cookies, reject all optional cookies or choose your preferences by category. Optional cookies are switched off until you choose to accept them. Rejecting them is as easy as accepting them.
Continuing to browse, scrolling or closing the banner does not give consent. You can read about our work and support the Charity without accepting optional cookies. Some optional features, such as embedded videos, may need separate permission.
Cookie choices are separate from your preferences for receiving emails or other fundraising communications. Accepting cookies does not sign you up to our mailing list.
Types of cookies
The categories below explain the purposes cookies can serve. The cookie list identifies the technologies actually used on our website.
Essential cookies. These support functions needed to deliver a service you request, such as maintaining a secure session, remembering your cookie choices or keeping items in a basket. They do not require consent when the relevant legal exception applies and cannot be switched off through our cookie controls.
Analytics cookies. These help us understand how visitors use the website, such as which pages are visited and where visitors encounter problems. We use this information to improve our website. Under this policy, optional analytics cookies are used only with your consent.
Preference and feature cookies. These remember optional choices or support additional features. Cookies that are essential to a feature you have specifically requested may be treated differently; the cookie list explains this. Other preference and feature cookies require your consent under this policy.
Marketing cookies. If used, these help measure advertising campaigns or show relevant advertising on other websites or social platforms. They may allow providers to link your visit with other information they hold. We ask for consent before enabling them and identify the providers and purposes in the cookie list.
How long cookies last
Session cookies usually expire when you close your browser. Persistent cookies remain for a specified period unless you delete them earlier. The cookie list gives the expiry of each cookie and whether its duration is renewed when you return. This is different from how long a provider keeps information collected through a cookie, which is explained in the relevant privacy information.
Other organisations and linked websites
First party cookies are set on our website’s domain. Third party cookies are set on another organisation’s domain. A cookie on our own domain can still be used by an external provider, so the cookie list identifies who receives information as well as who sets it.
Where we embed content or tools provided by another organisation, we apply the consent choices described here to optional tracking on our website. When you follow a link to a separate donation, fundraising, ticketing or social media website, that provider’s own cookie and privacy information applies. Your choices on our website do not automatically apply there.
Changing or withdrawing consent
You can change your choices or withdraw consent at any time using [insert the exact name and location of the cookie settings control]. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it. Your choices apply to the browser and device you are using; you may need to make them again on a different device or after deleting cookies.
If you withdraw consent, we stop the relevant optional tracking and notify providers where necessary. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing that took place before it. Existing cookies may also need to be removed from your browser; changing your preference does not automatically delete every third party cookie.
You can also use your browser settings to block or delete cookies. Blocking essential cookies may prevent features such as forms or checkout from working. Your browser’s help pages explain how to manage its settings. Listed below are the links to the support documents on how to manage and delete cookies from the major web browsers.

Cookies and personal information
Information collected through cookies can include online identifiers, IP addresses and details of visits or interactions. It may be personal information even if it does not include your name.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information, who it may be shared with, any relevant international transfers, retention and your data protection rights. Providers’ privacy information is linked in the cookie list.
Changes to this policy
We review this policy when our website, the technologies we use or relevant guidance changes. We update the date above when we revise it. Where new purposes require consent, we ask for fresh consent before enabling them. A change to this policy does not itself give us your consent.
