Meet Martin, our Fundraising Manager, who on Sunday 16th August will be taking on his first-ever physical challenge β all in aid of Royal Berks Charity. On Sunday 16th August Martin will be taking part in the virtual Prudential 19 Mile London – Surrey Cycle ride and will be pedalling 19 miles on his exercise bike.
Here is his story:
“My challenge will take place on Sunday 16th August 2020 and I have all day to virtually complete this challenge on an exercise bike.
For me, 2020 has been a complete year of change. Starting off in January diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and High Blood pressure. Told by the doctor if I lose 2 stone I could reverse this. To help with this I started to learn to swim, then in March Covid 19 came along, but despite being unable to swim I kept working and active throughout and even changed my job, giving me a much better work/home life balance. To date 6 months in I have lost 1.5 stone and itβs not getting any easier.
I am now the Fundraising Manager for the Royal Berks Charity and what way to further improve my fitness than give myself a challenge. You were never going to get me running, not good enough at swimming, but what I can do is cycle and what better way than virtually on an exercise bike.
I have set myself a modest target and love to exceed this. It would be great if you could sponsor me to reach this total and help the Charity in its support of our NHS heroes.”
