Royal Berks Charity is proud to have fully funded the installation of new AED (Automated External Defibrillator) cabinets across the Royal Berkshire Hospital, expanding vital defibrillator coverage and helping to save lives.

Until recently, the hospital’s only corridor AED was located at Main Reception, meaning there was a risk of delays should a patient, visitor or member of staff collapse in other areas of the hospital. The geography of the site means emergency response times can vary, and in some cases, staff would need to bring a crash trolley from their department to support.

The addition of new AED cabinets is a significant step forward in enhancing the hospital’s emergency response capabilities. This Trust-wide equipment will provide quicker access to defibrillators at both ends of the hospital – improving outcomes and increasing survival chances in critical situations.

“We’ve already seen examples where the AED at Main Reception has been used to assist members of the public who collapsed in our corridors,” said a spokesperson for the hospital. “Having more defibrillators readily available means first responders can act immediately, even before the crash team arrives.”

This important upgrade to hospital safety has been made possible by the generous support of Royal Berks Charity donors. Their contributions have helped ensure patients, visitors and staff have faster access to emergency care when every second truly matters.

“A big thank you to all our supporters,” said the Royal Berks Charity team. “Your generosity has helped us fund life-saving equipment that will benefit the entire hospital community.”
