Together, we make outstanding care possible.

Royal Berks Charity is proud to launch our new 2026–2030 Strategy, setting out how we will continue to support the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust over the next five years.

Every day, more than one million people rely on the Trust for expert care, compassion and hope. Our role is to help make that care even better by funding projects that go above and beyond core NHS services — from advanced equipment and improved hospital environments to staff wellbeing, education and community health initiatives.

Our strategy is our commitment to making a real difference where it is needed most. With the support of our donors, fundraisers, volunteers and partners, we will help build a stronger, more responsive local NHS that meets today’s needs and prepares for tomorrow.

Our vision: Supporting our local NHS to deliver its best every day, for everyone.
Our purpose: To fund projects that ensure every patient and family receives the best, most appropriate care when they need it most — improving outcomes, reducing inequalities and enabling healthier lives.

Our three strategic priorities

1. Upgrading equipment and technology

We will continue to invest in advanced medical equipment, technology and digital tools that help make diagnoses faster, treatment more effective and outcomes stronger.

Thanks to our supporters, patients are already benefiting from equipment that helps NHS teams deliver the very best care. Over the next five years, we will fund state-of-the-art tools that support faster treatment, improve recovery and help our hospitals prepare for the future.

This includes:

  • Investing in specialist medical equipment and digital tools
  • Empowering staff with the resources they need to deliver outstanding care
  • Supporting projects that improve patient waiting times, recovery and experience

2. Enhancing healthcare environments

We believe hospital spaces should feel safe, welcoming and supportive for patients, families and staff.

Through our strategy, we will fund refurbishments and redesigns that improve comfort, accessibility and dignity. From calming spaces that support recovery to facilities that help staff feel proud of where they work, every improvement helps create a better experience for everyone who uses our hospitals.

This includes:

  • Creating brighter, more accessible and more supportive spaces
  • Embedding sustainability into projects wherever possible
  • Transforming environments so patients feel cared for and staff feel supported

3. Championing education, wellbeing and health literacy

Outstanding care is delivered by dedicated NHS staff — from nurses and doctors to porters, administrators and many more. We want to support the people behind that care, while also helping local communities feel confident and informed about their health.

Our strategy will fund training, staff wellbeing initiatives and community outreach programmes that connect people with trusted healthcare advice. By supporting education and health literacy, we can help reduce inequalities and empower people to take charge of their health.

This includes:

  • Investing in NHS staff development, wellbeing and resilience
  • Supporting patient education and health literacy
  • Funding outreach programmes that reach communities beyond hospital walls

Your support is already making a difference

The generosity of our supporters has already helped fund projects that improve care across the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.

Upgraded incubators for neonatal care

In partnership with BIBS and New Life, £102,000 was raised to purchase upgraded incubators for the neonatal ward, helping support some of the hospital’s smallest and most vulnerable patients with enhanced care.

New AED cabinets across the hospital

Royal Berks Charity funded the installation of brand-new Automated External Defibrillator cabinets throughout the Royal Berkshire Hospital, helping ensure vital life-saving equipment is accessible when it is needed most.

Helping patients walk again

Thanks to £30,000 raised by Castle Royle Golf Club, we funded a LiteGait machine to support patients recovering from stroke and other conditions, helping them rebuild movement, confidence and independence.

Transforming a children’s ward through play

Generous support has helped transform the children’s ward playroom into a warm, welcoming space with a dedicated sensory area, helping young patients feel safe, reduce anxiety and enjoy moments of play.

Help shape the future of local NHS care

Every donation, every fundraiser and every act of support helps us go further for patients, families, staff and communities across Berkshire.

By supporting Royal Berks Charity, you are helping fund the equipment, environments, training and wellbeing projects that make outstanding care possible — not just today, but for years to come.

Together, we can help our local NHS deliver its best every day, for everyone.
