The Royal Berks Charity is thrilled to announce our official runner for the TCS London Marathon 2026 – Andrew Haydon, a dedicated nurse at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

Andrew’s connection to the hospital runs deep—he was born at the Royal Berkshire, and now walks its halls as a nurse, caring for patients and supporting colleagues every day. When he spotted a Royal Berks Charity poster featuring his own face and encouraging applications for the charity’s marathon ballot place, something just clicked.

“It felt like a sign,” Andrew said. “The poster made me stop in my tracks—quite literally. I’ve never run a marathon, but I knew in that moment this one was meant for me.”

More Than a Marathon

Andrew’s run is deeply personal. He’s dedicating his 26.2 miles to raise funds for two departments that have had a profound impact on his own family:

💜 The Berkshire Cancer Centre – where his wife is currently receiving treatment. Running in her honour, Andrew wants to give back to the team that has been a lifeline for them both.

💙 The Children’s and Young Persons Diabetes Clinic – which supported his daughter through her diagnosis. Their expert care and compassion inspired Andrew to turn gratitude into action.

“This run isn’t just for my family—it’s for every patient I’ve ever cared for, every colleague who’s shown unwavering compassion, and every department that holds someone’s story. I’ll be carrying the charity’s name on my bib, and their strength in every step.”

A Community Effort

Andrew is planning a packed calendar of fundraising activities between now and race day, including:

  • 🎟️ A community raffle with fantastic prizes donated by generous local businesses

  • 🧁 Bake sales, dress-up days, and fun challenges across the hospital

  • 📲 A social media campaign to spotlight the stories and people driving his run

His goal is to raise thousands for the departments that mean so much to him—and we know our community will help him every step of the way.
