Royal Berks Charity has launched its new 2026–2030 strategy, setting out an ambitious five-year plan to help the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust deliver outstanding care every day, for everyone.

Every day, more than one million people rely on the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust for expert care, compassion and hope. Royal Berks Charity exists to make that care even better by funding projects that go above and beyond core NHS services — from advanced equipment and improved hospital environments to staff wellbeing, education and community health initiatives.

The new strategy focuses on three key priorities:

Upgrading equipment and technology

Royal Berks Charity will continue to invest in state-of-the-art medical equipment and digital tools that help make diagnoses faster, treatment more effective and outcomes stronger.

Recent projects have already shown the difference donor support can make, including funding a LiteGait machine following £30,000 raised by Castle Royle Golf Club, helping stroke patients safely regain movement and confidence. The charity has also supported upgraded incubators for the neonatal ward and new Airvo 3 oxygen machines, helping teams provide enhanced care for patients who need it most.

Enhancing healthcare environments

The charity will fund projects that create brighter, more accessible and more supportive spaces for patients, families and staff.

From transforming children’s ward spaces through play and sensory areas, to supporting refurbishments that improve comfort and dignity, Royal Berks Charity is committed to creating hospital environments that reflect the compassion and care of the NHS.

Championing education, wellbeing and health literacy

The strategy also places a strong focus on supporting NHS staff development, wellbeing and community outreach.

This includes funding training, wellbeing initiatives and health literacy programmes that help people feel informed, supported and confident about their health. One example is MeetPEET, the Patient Experience Engagement Team, which takes healthcare beyond hospital walls through mini health checks, myth-busting workshops and trusted conversations with local communities.

Building a stronger future together

The strategy is closely aligned with the Trust’s ambitions and the NHS Long Term Plan, with a focus on improving patient experience, supporting staff and community wellbeing, building a healthier future for everyone, and reducing health inequalities.

Royal Berks Charity will measure the impact of its work through patient and staff feedback, improvements in outcomes and experience, the number of new technologies and upgrades funded, and real-life stories showing how donations make a difference.

The charity is also committed to building strong financial foundations for the future by growing and diversifying income, embracing new ways of fundraising, and ensuring every pound donated delivers the greatest possible impact for patients, staff and the wider community.

A spokesperson for Royal Berks Charity said:

“Our new strategy is more than a plan — it is our commitment to making a real difference where it is needed most. With the continued support of our donors, fundraisers, volunteers and partners, we can help our local NHS deliver high-quality, equitable and sustainable care every day, for everyone.”

Royal Berks Charity would like to thank everyone who has supported its work so far. Every donation, fundraising event and act of generosity helps shape the future of local NHS care.

Together, we can continue to make outstanding care possible.
